During the 1st quarter of 2008 the standards bodies TIA and ISO/IEC completed the standardisation of their next generation local area network requirements with the definition respectively of Augmented Category 6 and Class EA.

Through the standardisation process the TIA has defined the channel performance and the permanent link and component level performance for Augmented Category 6 whilst ISO/IEC has outlined a higher performing channel performance only for Class EA passive networks.
